Independent consulting · operations and engineering
Understand how the work fits together before deciding what to change.
Assigning a task, deploying a team or reallocating a unit affects other people in the operation. IndustrylinQ examined how an existing application supported that coordination and where its processes and technology could be improved.
Independent consulting engagement
Assess the process and the technology together.
The brief: assess the processes and application together
The client asked us to analyse the existing application, document its processes, recommend improvements and assess the platform technically.
The application represented incidents, roles, teams, radio channels and geographic deployment. Assigning and reassigning units were also part of its functionality. These capabilities need to be understood alongside the responsibilities of the people using them.
An action matters because of what another person does next
Who issues an assignment? What information is available at that point? What does the recipient need to know, and what should happen next? We connected the application's behaviour with the processes it supported.
The question goes beyond what a screen can do. The same change can represent a decision for a commander and a new assignment for a team. Improving the process requires an understanding of how those perspectives meet in the application.
Documenting the processes provided a basis for our recommendations. The operational context remained part of the technical assessment.
Advice grounded in the existing platform
We also examined the technical structure of the mobile application and backend. This was an assessment of an established environment, not a new platform originally built by IndustrylinQ.
The deliverables were the analysis, documented processes and recommendations for improvement. They gave the client a basis for deciding what to do next and discussing operational and technical choices together.
What this type of engagement offers
A business does not need to commission replacement software to understand its current platform. An independent review can help establish what to retain, where working practices need attention and where a technical change is worthwhile.
For employees, this approach gives proper weight to their responsibilities and the handovers between them. Their work is not reduced to a list of functions to make faster or cheaper.
This case demonstrates consulting as a complete engagement. It describes our assessment and recommendations, not the subsequent implementation or its outcomes.
